CUFFLEY OPERATIC SOCIETY

MAY 2009

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

Cuffley Operatic Society’s forthcoming production of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ has turned out to be a real family affair, as Andy, Angie and Hannah Frost take to the stage as Tevye, his wife Golde and youngest daughter Bielke.

Andy says: “It’s been great for us all to be involved in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’. Angie and I have been members of the society for years, and Hannah has always been involved in local dance shows. We’re delighted to have the chance to appear together for the first time.”

The hit musical, with music written by Jerry Brock, book by Joseph Stein and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, tells the story of the patriarchal Tevye and the people of Anatevka. Against the backdrop of political unrest and his daughters’ wishes to choose their own husbands, Tevye’s struggle is to hold his family together.

“We’ve tried to bring out the light-hearted side of Fiddler on the Roof, and casting Andy and Angie together as an onstage married couple has really helped achieve that,” said Producer Debbie Marsh. “Versions of the show can tend to be a bit depressing, but the script is actually quite funny and the songs are amazing. We think this will appeal equally to life-long fans as well as people who have never seen ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ before. We’ve assembled an extremely strong cast.” The show features well-loved classics, such as ‘Matchmaker’ and ‘If I Were a Rich Man’.

Cuffley Operatic Society has staged over sixty productions since forming in 1975, and continues to welcome new members from the surrounding area.
